Love me some Britishisms. However, there were so many in this book that at times I didn't know what the author was saying. This also is technically a romance, but it is mixed with women's fiction. I don't like women's fiction, but I liked this book. The first quarter was a little slow for me, as the author set up the premise and explained a lot of background. As soon as we were introduced to Ben and were given a few flashbacks to his relationship with Rachel in college things got better. I did sort of want to slap Rachel upside the head several times because she was just so damn passive about everything in her life. Who stays in a relationship with someone for 13 years because they really just can't be bothered to get out of it, when it's obviously that neither party is really into what is going on. I don't know. Rachel apparently.

The biggest issue that I had with the book was the reason why Ben and Rachel stop speaking and don't see each other for 10 years. And I blame it all on Rachel and her damn passivity. There was no way she shouldn't have run after him. I mean COME ON! Ben deserved better.

The ending was CUTE. I also liked the side love story between Rachel's friends. Rachel is also pretty funny. I laughed out aloud at her a couple of times. There is a good bit of conflict external to the love story, but the reason that it didn't bother me too much (even though it wasn't directly related to the love story conflict) was that I enjoyed the writing and the conflict was interesting.

I'll read more books by Mhairi McFarlene for sure.
