Saving Francesca

Saving Francesca - Melina Marchetta I wanted to like this more than I did. The themes in the book were thoughtful and well done, as were the characters. However, I just didn't get into it as much as I have many other YA books recently and certainly not as much as Marchetta's other novel Jellicoe Road, which I really liked. This book is quite good though, it just didn't move me. I think that I had trouble understanding her mother's complete mental meltdown from one day being fine to the next not getting out of bed The reasons for her mother's condition are explained as the book progresses but I felt a bit annoyed at the woman for not just getting it together, everyone has hard times and she had a family who depended on her. However, Francesca was a lovely character to read about and I enjoyed her journey through adolescence enormously.
