And Kristen Ashley lost me here. I bought this book with reservations since I had so enjoyed Motorcycle Man, Mystery Man and Sweet Dreams in her Colorado Mountain series, and even to some extent Lady Luck in that same series. Her story lines are dynamite, as are her characters. I think the problem here was that her characters weren't as fundamentally intriguing to me, former DEA agent and a divorcee with a bakery, which meant that all I had left to focus on was the writing. I couldn't do it. She seems to ebb and flow with the writing, in some of her books the writing is pretty polished and not too hard to read, in others, like this one, it needs a serious amount of editing. But, I still hold out hope for future books from Ms. Ashley because she really can write an alpha man like no other.
