This is a fast post-apocalyptic tale with a dynamite heroine. There is no explanation for how the world got the way that we find it at the start of Blood Red Road, it's obvious that it has been this way for some time. Some people commented that they found the language off-putting and difficult to read. It takes a little getting used to, but by the second chapter you hardly notice it anymore. It's reminiscent of Feed by M.T. Anderson, the way that narrator speaks using her own very limited vernacular. Saba is a brave and exciting heroine. The story moves fast and the love story is very realistic. The sequel is coming out in October and I will definitely read it.
