Flowers in the Attic

Flowers in the Attic - V.C. Andrews I read this because it was mentioned as a book comparable to Forbidden in its themes. I found it a shabby cousin to that book. The writing is quite poor and the characters are mostly flat. I read the whole thing mostly because I kept thinking it would get better. I just could not imagine children having a mother that would start out being so loving and then change into some sort of monster by the end. The grandmother I also found to almost ridiculous in her horrible, meanness. The writing also bothered me with phrases like "golly!" throughout. I will not be reading the rest of the books in the series. Forbidden was a far superior book. The character development in that book was extremely well done and the story was much more believable and therefore more powerful.
